Get Funky at Funkfest at the Greek

Los Angeles is a great city in which to be outdoors any time of the year, but especially in the summer because nights are warm and there are ample outdoor events to attend! The Greek Theatre is one of the best venues in Los Angeles because not only is it outdoors, but it is wooded and so beautiful to the point that it is easy to forget that you’re in a bustling city of lights and millions of people. There are events at the Greek all summer long, but one of the best and most exciting events coming up is Funkfest, which will take place on Saturday, August 17.

Funkfest will feature George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic, The Original Lakeside, Confunkshun, Slave, and JoJo. Of course, this event is likely to bring out many guest stars, so this lineup is sure to include other famous funk names as well. George Clinton’s style of funk is so distinctive that it garnered its name – P-Funk. His music is known for its politically charged lyrics, unique performances, solid musicianship, and memorable style of a combination of funk, soul, and rock. If you’re a funk fan or enjoy seeing live music, George Clinton and the other classic funk acts at the Greek will be a performance not to miss!

The Greek Theatre itself is a staple of Los Angeles and has been given numerous “best outdoor venue” awards. The venue is in Griffith Park, so beautiful trees and clear skies hide it. Modeled after a Greek temple, the theatre is small enough that any seat in the house gives you a good view! If you’re not staying in hotels near the Greek Theatre LA in mid-August, you’re in luck because the theatre will be home to many other events this summer. Early August brings performances by Chicago, Gipsy Kings, Jerry Garcia Symphonic Celebration, and The National. Later in the month are performances by Heart, Peter Frampton, and more! Check out the Greek Theatre’s website for more information and to purchase tickets. Enjoy your time at the Greek!
