New Year can be a very draining time of year, not just on your energy but on your bank balance too and January is not the easiest of months to get through. If you are looking for a way to extend your festivities without having to extend your overdraft to match there is always the Lunar New Year Festival to look forward to.  This festival takes place in Pasadena, so if you’re staying at a hotel around Burbank then be sure to attend this cultural event.

This is a free event hosted by the Pacific Asia Museum. While the museum itself has been open since 1971 this is only the fourth year of the festival. This means that festival is only going to get bigger and better throughout the upcoming years! The festival is open to the public and family members of all ages are welcome. It showcases many different events and performances as well as demonstrations and various craft activities, all of which are free. Main stage performances will be featured in a tent in the parking lot and each one will represent different cultures from various Asian countries. As the Lunar New Year is often referred to as Chinese New Year many people assume that it is only celebrated in China but the demonstrations and performances in the tent will showcase not just China but countries like Japan and Korea also join in on the celebration.

In its 43 years of being open to the public the museum has worked hard to help create a larger understanding of Asian cultures and has spent a lot of time educating students, families and scholars alike. However, big events and festivals alike serve a much wider public base and create a deeper knowledge and understanding. Reaching out to children especially helps to create tolerance and understanding for a happy future so bring everyone you know down to the festivities and help to bring in the year of the Horse in true Asian Style.
